Tip! Travel with a hand luggage only.
... and useful tips to get it back
You're arriving at the airport and are waiting patiently by the carousel with your fellow-passengers. Suddenly you realize that you're the only one left and your luggage seems nowhere to be found. A familiar scenario?
Everyone who has ever been waiting at the carousel for nothing knows how boring it is to start your holiday without your luggage. Here are five ways to minimize the risk of loosing your bags, or at least get them back quickly.
Bring hand luggage only
Travelling with a hand luggage only is really convenient for weekends or shorter trips. You'll keep track of your bag by yourself and once at the destination there'll be no waiting at the carousel at all!
Fly on a direct route
Choose a direct flight if you can. You'll logically minimize the risk of loosing the luggage if you don't change planes two or three times during your journey.
Check your luggage receipt
Double-check the receipt from the check-in counter and make sure that the information is correct. Also, keep it until you've received your luggage upon arrival, the receipt is your rescue if the bag is lost.
Plan enough time for transit
Even if you are able to run between the gates at the airports doesn't mean that your bag will be able to follow in a rush. The airport staff will need some time to reload your luggage.
Stand out on the carousel
There are plenty of black, blue and greyish bags travelling the world right now and they might easily be mixed up at arrival. Get a bag that stands out with a bright colour or decorate your current one with big stickers.
Mark your bag
A simple bag tag might fall of, making the identification of your bag harder. Mark your bag with name properly on both the inside and outside and you'll probably get the bag back quicker.
Take a photo
It's often easier to show Lost and Found a photo of your bag instead of trying to describe it. Take a photo before you leave and keep it with you in print or on your camera.
If your bag is actually lost...
.... it might be a relief to have some emergency clothes in the hand luggage. A clean t-shirt and some underwear are not spacious and will feel like a luxury after a few days.
... you'll be happy that you didn't pack any valuables or important documents in the check-in luggage. Place them in your hand luggage instead.
